Iran executed Aghil Keshavarz, a 27-year-old man, over the weekend after he was convicted of espionage for Israel's intelligence agency, Mossad. According to state media, Keshavarz had engaged in 'close intelligence cooperation' with Mossad and was accused of capturing photos of Iranian military and security areas.
He was arrested in May while photographing a military headquarters in Urmia, located approximately 371 miles northwest of Tehran, and had allegedly carried out over 200 similar assignments across various Iranian cities, including Tehran.
His death sentence was upheld by Iran's Supreme Court. This execution follows a series of similar cases, as Iran has executed eleven individuals for espionage since a twelve-day air conflict in June, which resulted in significant casualties on both sides.
Iran routinely conducts closed-door trials for espionage cases, often denying suspects access to the evidence used against them, as reported by Fox News.
