Bondi Beach Mass Shooting During Hanukkah Celebration Leaves 15 Dead

The mass shooting at Bondi Beach during a Hanukkah celebration left at least 15 people dead and dozens injured. The two attackers, a father and son duo, reportedly used legally obtained firearms during the shooting, which has been labeled an act of antisemitic terrorism by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

Albanese stated that this incident is part of a troubling rise in antisemitism in Australia, with over 3,700 anti-Jewish incidents reported since the Hamas-led assault on Israel in October 2023.

The accused gunmen were identified as 50-year-old Sajid Akram and his 24-year-old son Naveed, who remains hospitalized in serious condition. The elder Akram was killed by police during the incident. Ahmed al Ahmed, a local fruit shop owner, acted heroically by tackling one of the gunmen, potentially saving many lives despite being shot in the process.
