Severe Weather Disrupts Thanksgiving Travel Across the U.S.
Full Transcript
A significant winter blast has severely disrupted travel across the U.S. during one of the busiest holiday weekends of the year. According to NBC News, millions are affected as wintry conditions have led to car accidents and long lines at airports, particularly at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, which was bracing for what was expected to be its busiest Thanksgiving travel week in history.
On a particularly challenging Sunday, there were over 11,273 flight delays and 831 cancellations reported within, into, or out of the U.S., as noted by The Hill. The National Weather Service's Weather Prediction Center has warned that a winter storm is approaching the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions, predicting hazardous conditions due to snow and ice beginning Monday evening.
Chicago's O'Hare reported significant impacts on Saturday, with 529 flight delays for departures and 533 for arrivals, attributed to the winter storm conditions that persisted throughout the day. As the storm continues to move through, the potential for additional delays and travel disruptions looms, particularly across the interior Northeast.
Travelers are urged to stay informed about the weather and flight statuses as conditions evolve.
