Tesla Achieves Production Milestone at Gigafactory Shanghai
Full Transcript
Tesla has confirmed a major achievement at its Gigafactory Shanghai, announcing the production of its four millionth vehicle. This facility, which began operations in October 2019, initially focused on Model 3 assembly and ramped up production to a capacity exceeding 950,000 vehicles annually.
By September 2023, the factory had produced its two millionth vehicle, and now, just over three years later, it has reached the four million mark. In 2023, Tesla delivered 675,000 cars in the first three quarters, and the Shanghai factory has also been instrumental in exporting vehicles to Europe, supplementing production at Gigafactory Berlin.
Notably, it is the only plant manufacturing the Model Y L, a longer wheel-based version exclusive to the Chinese market. Given the current production pace, Tesla is on track to celebrate the five millionth vehicle produced at this site by late next year or early 2027.
Additionally, the Gigafactory is home to a Megafactory that produces the Megapack, further showcasing its significance in Tesla's global production strategy.
