OpenAI's Sora App Expands Video Generation Capabilities
Full Transcript
OpenAI has launched its highly anticipated AI-powered video generation app, Sora, expanding its capabilities for content creators and marketers. Following a successful iOS debut in September 2025, the app is now available for Android users in seven countries, including the United States, Canada, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam, as reported by Android Central.
Users can generate videos by simply inputting text prompts, allowing for creative expressions such as generating a video of a woman interviewing an alien. The app boasts features that enable users to share and remix AI-generated content, functioning similarly to social media platforms with a TikTok-style vertical feed of videos.
OpenAI claims that Sora generates 'hyperreal videos' with 'unprecedented realism', which has contributed to its rapid adoption, crossing 1 million downloads within just five days of its iOS launch. Users can select from various styles, including cinematic, animated, photorealistic, or cartoon, and can customize their videos by changing the vibe, adding scenes, or extending the storyline.
Additionally, the app includes a 'Cameo' feature that allows users to insert themselves or other individuals into AI-generated videos simply by uploading an image. Despite the excitement surrounding Sora, OpenAI has faced scrutiny regarding its handling of deepfakes and copyright issues.
However, the company has made improvements in these areas, according to recent updates. Currently, access to Sora requires an invite code, limiting its availability even in supported regions. This innovative app is part of a broader trend in AI-driven content creation tools, as companies like Google have also introduced similar capabilities, such as their Veo 3 tool in the Gemini app.
