Google has announced adjustments to its timeline for transitioning from the Google Assistant to its new AI, Gemini. Initially set to phase out the Assistant by the end of 2025, Google is now pushing this deadline to 2026 to ensure a seamless transition across mobile devices.

In a community update, Google acknowledged that while they still plan to upgrade the Assistant experience to Gemini, they are not ready to completely retire the older Assistant just yet. Furthermore, Gemini has introduced a new feature called SynthID that allows users to determine if a video was generated or modified with Google AI.

This tool follows the rollout of a similar feature for images and is part of Google's broader commitment to transparency in AI-generated content. Users can upload videos to the Gemini app to verify authenticity, but this feature currently only works for videos created with Google AI tools and has specific limitations regarding video size and length.

Google claims that over 20 billion pieces of AI-generated content have been watermarked using SynthID, enhancing the ability to discern real from AI-generated material.
