Google Offers Free AI Pro Plan to 500 Million Indians

Google is offering its Google AI Pro plan, which includes 2TB of storage, for free to over 500 million Jio customers in India. According to Android Central, this initiative marks a significant push for Google to enhance user engagement in one of its key markets.

The deal is currently live for Jio users aged 18 to 25, with plans to expand to all customers shortly. To be eligible, users need to have a valid Jio 5G plan, costing at least 349 rupees per month. The Google AI Pro plan, valued at 1,950 rupees a month, provides access to advanced AI tools, including the Gemini 2.5 Pro model, the Veo 3.1 AI video generator, and the Nano Banana AI image-editing tool.

This offer is seen as a strategy to inflate user metrics by providing AI services without any cost. Eligible customers can claim this offer through the MyJio app. Google's approach follows a similar initiative where it previously offered AI services to college students, but this time it’s broadly targeting Jio's extensive customer base.

The plan's value over the 18-month period totals approximately 35,100 rupees, providing significant savings for users. Furthermore, competition in the Indian market is heating up, as Airtel, India's largest carrier, is also providing a one-year subscription to Perplexity Pro for its customers.
