Telecommunications Advances: Google Cast Support on Apple TV

An update to the Apple TV app on Android phones and tablets introduces Google Cast support, closing a significant functionality gap since its launch earlier this year. The update features a Google Cast icon that appears next to the user's profile avatar, allowing users to access a Cast To bottom sheet designed to match the app's aesthetic.

Users can control playback with a miniplayer that includes playback information, device details, and a timeline, alongside options for 10-second rewind and play/pause. The fullscreen portrait player offers large buttons for navigation and controls for audio and subtitles.

This update follows earlier enhancements since February, which included new episode notifications and a slight redesign of the homescreen icon. Version 2.2 of the Apple TV app is currently rolling out via the Play Store.
