During a recent 5G performance comparison on a road trip from Chicago to Nashville, Adam Doud of ZDNet tested network signals from Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T using three Google Pixel 10 Pros. The trip covered over 1,000 miles through Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, and Tennessee.

Using the nPerf app, which recorded connectivity data approximately 1,500 times per minute, Doud gathered over 120,000 data points. The tests showed that, overall, T-Mobile had a 96.2 percent coverage rate in both Non-Standalone and Standalone modes, while AT&T and Verizon's 5G coverage was over 35 percent.

Doud noted that all three carriers maintained decent or better signal strength for over 90 percent of the trip. Notably, Verizon achieved a remarkable speed of just under 4GBps in Louisville, Kentucky.

The tests were conducted primarily on interstates, highlighting that while all carriers are building their networks effectively, the performance may vary in non-interstate areas. Doud emphasized the importance of network coverage in high-traffic zones like rest stops and gas stations, where many people stop during road trips.

This comprehensive testing provides insights into the performance of the leading telecommunications carriers, aiding consumers in making informed choices about mobile services.
