Full Transcript
Starlink's internet service has experienced explosive growth in 2025, driven by increased demand for satellite internet, particularly in underserved regions. According to Cloudflare, global web traffic through Starlink more than doubled this year, with the service expanding into many new markets, including notable spikes in countries like Botswana where traffic surged by nearly 300%.
Starlink now boasts over eight million active users in over 150 countries, up from four million in September 2024. The network, powered by over 9,000 low-Earth orbit satellites, has improved median peak-hour speeds by more than 50%.
This performance boost has made Starlink a leading option in both urban and remote areas. Furthermore, Starlink has become SpaceX's largest revenue source, surpassing its launch business, and is expected to play a critical role in the company's future, including plans for next-generation satellites set to launch in late 2026.
Additionally, Starlink's capacity improvements and potential new services, such as satellite-to-cellular, are being developed as competitors like Amazon's Project Kuiper prepare to enter the market. Starlink's growth is not just about increasing user numbers but also about bridging the digital divide with reliable internet access for those previously lacking options.
