Saudi Arabia Launches First Quantum Computer for Industrial Use with Aramco and Pasqal

Aramco, in partnership with Pasqal, has launched Saudi Arabia's first quantum computer at Aramco's data center in Dhahran. This deployment represents the Middle East's first quantum computer dedicated to industrial applications.

The system utilizes Pasqal's neutral-atom technology and is capable of controlling 200 qubits arranged in programmable two-dimensional arrays. This technology is particularly well-suited for exploring advanced quantum algorithms and real-world use cases relevant to industrial operations.

Ahmad O. Al-Khowaiter, the Executive Vice President of Technology and Innovation at Aramco, emphasized that this partnership is a natural progression of Aramco's strategy to leverage advanced digital solutions to enhance operational efficiency.

The collaboration builds on a previous strategic investment by Waed Ventures, which is part of Aramco's venture capital program, in Pasqal earlier in January 2023. As part of this partnership, Pasqal will also provide training programs and joint research opportunities for Saudi engineers and scientists.

This initiative aims to strengthen the Kingdom's quantum ecosystem and support the development of high-tech talent in Saudi Arabia and the broader region. The deployment is expected to accelerate the development of quantum applications across various sectors, including energy and materials.
