Hyundai Unveils Production-Ready Autonomous Mobility Robot Platform
Full Transcript
Hyundai Motor Group unveiled the MobED, or Mobile Eccentric Droid, at the International Robot Exhibition 2025 in Tokyo, Japan, from December 3 to 6. This marks Hyundai's first mass-produced mobility robot platform developed by the Robotics LAB.
The MobED showcases a production-ready autonomous mobility robot designed for various industrial and everyday applications. It combines three key features: Adaptive Mobility, Intuitive Autonomy, and Infinite Journey.
The Adaptive Mobility feature includes an eccentric control mechanism that stabilizes the platform by adjusting posture and height on uneven surfaces, allowing for seamless navigation across diverse terrains.
The design incorporates automotive-grade engineering for durability and precision. MobED's Intuitive Autonomy makes operation accessible to all users through a touchscreen controller and an intuitive 3D user interface.
Its AI-powered navigation system utilizes LiDAR and camera fusion sensors for obstacle recognition and avoidance, ensuring safe operations in crowded spaces. MobED is built as a modular platform, supporting multiple applications across industries such as delivery, logistics, and research.
Two configurations will be available: MobED Pro, which features advanced sensors for commercial applications, and MobED Basic, designed for research and development. The aesthetic design blends functional precision with elegance, showcasing straight lines and curves that highlight its dynamic movement.
The MobED's mass production is set to begin in the first half of 2026, with promotional demonstrations at the iREX booth. Dong Jin Hyun, Vice President and Head of Hyundai Motor Group Robotics LAB, emphasized that MobED aims to set new standards in the global robotics market, paving the way for a future where humans and robots coexist.
A technical seminar will also be hosted at the event, focusing on MobED's technology and the vision of Hyundai's Robotics LAB.
