Jolla has launched a new Linux phone available for pre-order, with production contingent on receiving at least 2,000 orders by January 4, 2024. As of now, they have received 1,721 pre-orders at a discounted price of 499 dollars, down from a standard price range of 599 to 699 dollars.
Estimated delivery is set for the first half of 2026. The phone is powered by a high-performing Mediatek 5G System on Chip, features 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage expandable up to 2TB via a microSDXC card.
The device has a 6.36-inch FullHD AMOLED display with a pixel density of approximately 390 pixels per inch and a 20:9 aspect ratio, protected by Gorilla Glass. It includes a user-replaceable 5,500mAh battery and supports both 4G and 5G networks with dual nano-SIM capabilities.
Other specifications include Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, a 50MP wide camera, a 13MP ultrawide camera, and a front-facing wide-lens selfie camera. It also features a fingerprint reader on the power key, a user-changeable back cover, and an RGB indication LED.
A notable aspect is the user-configurable physical Privacy Switch, allowing users to turn off the microphone, Bluetooth, Android apps, or other features. The phone will be available in three colors: Snow White, Kaamos Black, and The Orange.
The design and specifications were voted on by the Sailfish OS community. The new Jolla Phone ships with Sailfish OS, which supports Android applications and promises a minimum of five years of support, without tracking or hidden analytics.
The device will be manufactured and sold in Europe, targeting initial sales markets that include the EU, the UK, Switzerland, and Norway, with global roaming capabilities planned for U.S. carrier networks.
