Hyundai Unveils Production-Ready Autonomous Mobility Robot Platform MobED
Full Transcript
Hyundai Motor Group has unveiled its first mass-produced autonomous mobility robot platform, named MobED, at the International Robot Exhibition 2025, held in Tokyo, Japan, from December 3 to 6. This production-ready platform was developed by the Hyundai Motor Group Robotics LAB and showcases an advanced robotic design that prioritizes functionality and adaptability.
MobED was first introduced as a concept at the Consumer Electronics Show in 2022 and has since evolved into a fully autonomous mobility solution utilizing artificial intelligence. The innovative capabilities of MobED are structured around three core pillars: Adaptive Mobility, Intuitive Autonomy, and Infinite Journey.
Adaptive Mobility features an eccentric control mechanism that actively stabilizes the robot, allowing it to adjust its posture and height based on the terrain. This enables seamless navigation across diverse environments, from narrow indoor pathways to rugged outdoor surfaces, all while maintaining automotive-grade durability.
Intuitive Autonomy democratizes robotics, featuring a user-friendly touchscreen controller and an AI-powered navigation system that uses LiDAR and cameras for obstacle recognition and avoidance. This makes MobED accessible to users without technical expertise.
The platform is designed for versatility, with a modular build that supports various applications across industries, including delivery, logistics, research, and video production. MobED comes in two configurations: the MobED Pro, which includes enhanced autonomous features ideal for commercial applications, and the MobED Basic, designed for research and development.
The advanced design of MobED emphasizes both aesthetic appeal and technical precision, featuring high-quality metals and a refined structure that enhances its dynamic capabilities. The proprietary Drive-and-Lift modules allow for seamless multi-directional movement and adaptability to uneven surfaces.
During the iREX 2025 event, Hyundai showcased live demonstrations of MobED navigating varying terrains and performing tasks such as loading and unloading, delivery, and broadcasting. A technical seminar detailing MobED's integrated technologies will be held on December 3, from 11:30 AM to 12:10 PM at Tokyo Big Sight.
Mass production of MobED is scheduled to commence in the first half of 2026. More information about the product and purchasing options can be found on the Hyundai Motor Group Robotics LAB website.
