Canada Invests $92M CAD in Quantum Champions Program for Fault-Tolerant Computing
Full Transcript
The Canadian government has launched the Canadian Quantum Champions Program with an initial investment of $92 million CAD, as part of a broader $334.3 million CAD commitment from Budget 2025. This initiative aims to enhance Canada's capabilities in developing fault-tolerant, industrial-scale quantum computers.
Four Canadian companies—Anyon Systems, Nord Quantique, Photonic, and Xanadu Quantum Technologies—are set to receive up to $23 million CAD each to accelerate the development of these quantum systems. The National Research Council of Canada will also establish a Benchmarking Quantum Platform to assess the underlying quantum technologies.
This strategic funding is intended not only to foster innovation in sectors like defense and healthcare but also to build long-term economic resilience and national sovereignty, emphasizing the role of quantum technologies as crucial infrastructure for future competitiveness.
According to Quantum Computing Report, the initiative reflects Canada's urgency to move beyond proof-of-concept toward commercially viable quantum computing systems, ensuring that homegrown expertise remains within the country.
