TECNO held its annual Future Lens event, unveiling its latest innovations in smartphone imaging technology. The company showcased a smaller Dual-Mirror Reflect Telephoto module developed in collaboration with Samsung and Largan, a manufacturer of optical lenses.

This module uses a coaxial optical design to fold the optical path, resulting in a telephoto camera module that is 50% smaller while maintaining image quality and producing a distinctive donut bokeh effect.

This advancement is particularly significant as smartphone designs become slimmer, allowing devices like the Galaxy S25 Edge and iPhone Air to include telephoto lenses without compromising thickness. Additionally, TECNO introduced its Freeform Continuum Telephoto module, which allows for continuous optical zoom from 1x to 9x using Alvarez optical architecture.

This method eliminates the common 'focal jumps' seen when switching between different optical sensors, offering a seamless zoom experience. TECNO has not yet announced when these technologies will be incorporated into its smartphones, but the company aims to improve image quality and address common camera issues.

During the event, TECNO also presented its fully automated imaging laboratory, developed in partnership with DXOMARK, to enhance imaging capabilities in real-world scenarios. The advancements highlighted at the Future Lens event underscore TECNO's commitment to improving smartphone photography, a crucial feature for many consumers in today's market.
