Motorola is gearing up to launch its new flagship smartphone, the Edge 70 Ultra, following the recent unveiling of the Edge 70 in select markets. According to Android Central, leaked benchmarks suggest that this upcoming device will feature Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset, which has yet to be officially unveiled but is expected to deliver robust performance.

The phone, likely identified by the model number XT2603-1, was spotted in Geekbench results with impressive scores: 2636 in single-core and 7475 in multi-core performance. This performance is achieved through a unique CPU configuration of two 3.65GHz cores and six 3.32GHz cores, paired with an Adreno 829 GPU and 16GB of RAM.

The Edge 70 Ultra is anticipated to run Android 16 out of the box, which is a standard expectation for flagship devices. Notably, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is designed to be a more cost-effective option compared to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, potentially making the Edge 70 Ultra a more affordable flagship smartphone.

While Motorola has not yet confirmed the exact specifications, the Edge 70 Ultra may adopt a similar ultra-thin design as its predecessor, the Edge 70, which measures just 5.99mm thick and houses a 4800mAh battery.

Although the Edge 70 has already launched in Europe, sources indicate that the Ultra variant will likely debut in China before reaching other regions. The report emphasizes that despite the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5's slightly lower performance compared to its Elite counterpart, it should still be powerful enough for most users and capable of supporting advanced on-device AI features.

As Motorola skipped the Edge 60 Ultra last year, there is considerable anticipation surrounding this release, indicating a strategic move to re-establish its presence in the high-end smartphone market.

With the Edge 70 Ultra, Motorola aims to deliver a competitive offering against other flagship devices, particularly from Apple and Samsung, as it continues to innovate in the mobile technology landscape.
