Hangzhou-based AI and augmented-reality glasses maker Rokid has unveiled a lightweight, AI-powered eyewear device in partnership with Chinese eyewear brand Bolon. This new model features a D-shaped black frame weighing just 38.5 grams and supports customized prescription lenses, allowing it to be worn like regular sunglasses, but with a more fashion-forward look.

The device includes a physical control button and a touchpad located on the right temple for ease of use. Powered by Qualcomm's AR1 chipset, these glasses can perform a variety of functions including recording video, taking photos, playing music, and providing navigation features.

CEO and founder Misa Zhu Mingming stated that AI glasses are approaching their iPhone moment, indicating a significant shift in mobile technology. Notably, despite lacking a traditional display, the eyewear is integrated with leading Chinese AI models such as Alibaba's Qwen, DeepSeek, ByteDance's Doubao, and Zhipu.

This integration enables a voice-activated digital assistant, enhancing user interaction. The frame starts at 2,199 yuan, approximately 310 US dollars, with additional costs for prescription lenses. The Bolon brand, now part of the EssilorLuxottica group, adds to the device's appeal in the competitive eyewear market.

As rivals race to establish smart glasses as the next mass-market device after smartphones, Rokids AI eyewear could redefine how users interact with their smartphones, marking an important evolution in mobile technology.
