Concerns Over Privacy in China's Menstrual Tracking Requirement
Full Transcript
A concerned mother in Xuanwei, Yunnan province, China, has reported that local authorities are requiring postpartum women to share the dates of their last menstrual period in a community chat group aimed at promoting children's health.
This request, which surfaced on December 2, has sparked significant backlash over privacy concerns and potential abuse of power. According to a widely circulated screenshot, a message in the group called Children's Health Learning Group instructed mothers to report their last menstrual period along with their names and phone numbers.
Additionally, the message asked mothers who were out of town to provide their current locations. The frustrated mother indicated that this reporting requirement was not a one-time event, as it was reintroduced the following month, suggesting a continual expectation for monthly updates.
