Yann LeCun has officially launched his new startup, Advanced Machine Intelligence, or AMI Labs, and is reportedly targeting a valuation exceeding $3.5 billion. LeCun, who serves as Executive Chairman, has appointed Alex LeBrun, the co-founder and former CEO of Nabla, to take over as CEO.

The startup aims to develop world model AI systems that understand their environment, maintain persistent memory, and plan complex actions, positioning itself as an alternative to current large language models.

AMI Labs is reportedly seeking to raise approximately $586 million, which would be one of the largest pre-launch fundraising efforts in AI history, reflecting strong investor confidence in LeCun's vision.

While AMI Labs has yet to launch, it faces competition from other well-funded European rivals like Black Forest Labs and Quantexa. LeCun's departure from Meta, where he was Chief AI Scientist, aligns with his vision to explore AI innovation outside of Silicon Valley, with plans to establish the company's headquarters in Paris.

The partnership with Nabla will grant the health-tech company first access to AMI's developing technologies, enabling the creation of FDA-certifiable AI systems for healthcare applications.
