The tech industry continues to face significant layoffs in 2025, with over 22,000 job cuts reported so far this year, following more than 150,000 layoffs across 549 companies last year, according to TechCrunch.

In February alone, 16,084 employees were laid off as many companies pivot towards AI and automation. Major players like Amazon and Microsoft have made substantial cuts, with Amazon eliminating around 14,000 roles and Microsoft planning to cut 9,000 jobs.

Other companies such as Playtika and Rivian also announced cuts, with Playtika laying off 20% of its workforce, and Rivian cutting 600 jobs amid an EV market pullback. Smaller companies are not immune either; for instance, GupShup laid off 200 employees to improve efficiency.

The trend reflects a wider shift in the tech landscape as companies adjust to economic pressures and changing market demands. As layoffs continue, the human impact remains significant, raising concerns over the future of innovation in the sector.
