Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang met with President Donald Trump on Wednesday to discuss AI chip export restrictions. Huang voiced his opposition to state-level regulation of artificial intelligence during the meeting.

According to CNBC, the discussions centered on ongoing deliberations by lawmakers about including an artificial intelligence chip sales measure in the National Defense Authorization Act. Huang emphasized Nvidia's support for export controls, stating, 'I've said it repeatedly that we support export controls.' He expressed concerns over the proposed Guaranteeing Access and Innovation for National Artificial Intelligence Act, saying it could be more detrimental to the United States than the AI Diffusion Act.

Huang previously warned that China is set to win the AI race, due to lower energy costs and a more flexible regulatory environment. After facing backlash for his comments, he later stated that it is vital America wins by racing ahead in AI development.

He criticized the concept of state-by-state AI regulation, arguing that it could severely hinder the industry’s progress and create national security concerns. Huang advocated for a unified federal AI regulation instead.

He also praised Trump on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, highlighting Trump as a good listener and noting his authentic communication style. The meeting and Huang's comments come amid ongoing tensions between the U.S. and China over advanced technology, particularly in the semiconductor industry, as the Trump administration has maintained a ban on Nvidia selling its most advanced chips to Beijing.
