The U.S. military has launched airstrikes against ISIS targets in Syria in retaliation for the killing of two American soldiers and a U.S. interpreter. According to CBS News, the strikes involved fighter aircraft, attack helicopters, and artillery, targeting over 70 locations across central Syria.
The operation, named 'Operation Hawkeye Strike,' was confirmed by U.S. Central Command, which stated that it employed more than 100 precision munitions to target known ISIS infrastructure and weapons sites.
The attack that triggered this response occurred when an ISIS gunman ambushed U.S. forces supporting a local leader in Palmyra, Syria. President Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth expressed that the U.S. would respond with overwhelming force, with Hegseth announcing the successful execution of the operation via social media.
Following the initial attack, U.S. Central Command reported conducting 10 operations in Syria and Iraq, resulting in the death or detention of 23 terrorist operatives, underlining the escalating military actions against ISIS.
