Apple has launched the Hikawa Phone Grip & Stand, its second limited-edition accessory in a month, celebrating the 40th anniversary of accessibility at Apple. Designed by Los Angeles-based artist Bailey Hikawa, the accessory is MagSafe compatible and functions as a stand, allowing users to hold their iPhone in both vertical and horizontal orientations.

Its design prioritizes ease of use and supports multiple hand positions, which is particularly beneficial for users with limited dexterity or those who cannot operate the iPhone with their hands. According to Hikawa, the grip was developed through an extensive interview process with users who have various accessibility needs, aiming to reduce the effort required to keep the device steady.

The accessory features a soft-touch feel made from premium silicone, making it comfortable to use. Apple has emphasized its ongoing commitment to accessibility, with this release following other improvements introduced earlier this year, including Accessibility Nutrition Labels on the App Store, an Accessibility Reader, Braille Access, and Live Captions that work with the Apple Watch, as well as a Magnifier feature for Mac that utilizes the iPhone's camera.

Sarah Herrlinger, Apple's head of accessibility, highlighted the importance of creating MagSafe accessories that genuinely benefit diverse communities. The Hikawa Phone Grip & Stand is priced at $69.95 and is available in two colorways: Chartreuse and an exclusive recycled colorway named Crater, which can only be found on Apple's Online Store in the United States.

This launch underscores Apple's dedication to enhancing inclusivity in technology, providing tools that cater to a broad array of user needs. As different communities begin to use the accessory, Apple is eager to learn how it can be best utilized and what unique problems it can solve for individuals.
