Vikings to Start Rookie Max Brosmer Against Seahawks
Full Transcript
The Minnesota Vikings have announced that rookie quarterback Max Brosmer will start against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, following limited practice time for J.J. McCarthy due to concussion protocol.
Head Coach Kevin O'Connell confirmed this decision after Friday's practice, indicating that McCarthy, the 10th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, will not participate in the game. McCarthy reported symptoms during the flight home from Green Bay last week.
His struggles, including a missed rookie season due to knee surgery and five games sidelined this season with a sprained ankle, have contributed to the Vikings' disappointing performance, currently sitting at 4-7 and ranking in the bottom five of the NFL in yards per game, interception rate, and sacks allowed per pass attempt.
Brosmer, who was signed as a priority undrafted free agent after a standout 2024 season at Minnesota, where he led the FCS in passing yards per game in 2023, will take the reins against a formidable Seahawks defense.
The Seahawks rank fourth in the league in fewest yards per play allowed and seventh in points per game allowed. The Vikings also face injury concerns on the offensive line, with left tackle Christian Darrisaw listed as questionable and left guard Donovan Jackson ruled out for the matchup.
O'Connell mentioned that Darrisaw participated in some drills but the final assessment will depend on the medical team's evaluation. With the stakes high as the Vikings aim for a playoff push, the performance of Brosmer will be crucial as they seek to overcome their offensive struggles against a tough Seattle squad.
