The Tennessee Builders Alliance celebrated a significant milestone in the construction of the New Nissan Stadium, the future home of the NFL's Tennessee Titans, on October 20, 2024. This event marked the topping out of the $2.1 billion stadium project, which broke ground in March 2024.
The venue is set to open in 2027 and will cover 1.8 million square feet. Construction teams, including Turner Construction, AECOM Hunt, Polk & Associates Construction, and ICF Builders & Consultants, have installed over 12,400 beams weighing approximately 18,000 tons and poured around 98,000 cubic yards of concrete.
The next phase involves installing the Ethylene tetrafluoroethylene roof system, a translucent material designed to enhance climate control while allowing sunlight into the stadium. The new stadium is envisioned to be a year-round destination, hosting not only Titans games but also college and professional football, concerts, and various civic events.
Key design features include a translucent roof, 360-degree outdoor porches, and a 12,000-square-foot community space. The Titans and the Builders Alliance have emphasized workforce opportunity and inclusion throughout the project.
To date, teams have logged 3.6 million hours of work, with about 1,800 workers onsite daily. Impressively, 18.5% of those hours were contributed by residents from Nashville's Promise Zones, areas with high poverty that benefit from federal support.
The project has also generated over $110 million in contracts awarded to Disadvantaged Business Enterprise firms, highlighting the participation of nearly 100 small, women-owned, and minority-owned businesses.
The construction initiative has engaged the community through more than 120 events across Middle Tennessee, connecting local residents with career opportunities in construction. The Titans Construction Training Camp program has seen 96 participants graduate across eight cohorts, with over 75% receiving job offers upon completion.
According to Smart Cities Dive, this stadium project is not just about football; it is a substantial investment in Nashville's economy, promising to stimulate significant workforce and small business growth.
