Baker Mayfield's Low-Grade Shoulder Sprain Update

Baker Mayfield, the starting quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, underwent an MRI following his injury during the team's 34-7 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. According to ESPN, the MRI revealed a low-grade AC joint sprain in his left shoulder, and fortunately, there was no additional damage.

Sources indicate that the overall sentiment around the team is relief, as Mayfield is viewed as fortunate not to have sustained a more serious injury. His availability for the upcoming game against the Arizona Cardinals remains uncertain, but early reports suggest that he could be back sooner rather than later.

Coach Todd Bowles expressed concern about losing Mayfield, emphasizing the impact he has had on the team's performance, particularly in recent weeks. Teddy Bridgewater stepped in as the backup quarterback, completing eight of 15 passes for 62 yards without any touchdowns or interceptions in relief of Mayfield. Bowles noted that if Bridgewater has to start, adjustments would be necessary to accommodate his different playing style.

Notably, Baker Mayfield has not missed a start in his three seasons with the Buccaneers, having started all 45 regular-season games up to this point. His last absence due to injury was while with the Carolina Panthers in 2022, when he suffered a high ankle sprain.
