Steelers Sign Offensive Tackle Amid Injury Concerns
Full Transcript
In response to significant injuries across their offensive line, the Pittsburgh Steelers have signed offensive tackle Doug Nester to their practice squad, as reported by Behind the Steel Curtain. Nester, who is a former teammate of Zach Frazier at West Virginia, brings versatility as he has experience playing both guard and tackle.
His signing comes after the Steelers placed starting left tackle Broderick Jones and backup Calvin Anderson on injured reserve, leaving the team with a depleted tackle position. With Andrus Peat also in concussion protocol, the Steelers' current healthy tackles are Dylan Cook and Troy Fautanu.
As a precaution, the team may need to elevate players from the practice squad, including Nester, if Peat is unable to play, as communicated by Steelers Now. Nester previously spent the 2024 season on the Steelers' practice squad and participated in all three preseason games this year, primarily at guard but with prior experience at tackle.
His career includes 52 starts at West Virginia, though he went undrafted in 2024 after limited performance metrics leading up to the draft. The Steelers are clearly aiming to bolster their line and improve quarterback protection ahead of an important upcoming game.
