Patriots Roster Adjustments as Season Progresses
Full Transcript
As the New England Patriots move into the final stretch of the season, they continue to make roster adjustments, highlighting their response to injuries and performance challenges. Recently, the team signed linebacker Amari Gainer to the practice squad, bringing their practice squad back to capacity at 17 players.
Gainer, who is 25 years old, entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2024. He played all 17 games during his rookie season, primarily contributing on special teams and logging limited snaps on defense.
He had a strong college career, accumulating 237 tackles, including 25 for loss, and 8.5 sacks while playing for Florida State and North Carolina. The Patriots' decision to add Gainer comes after other linebacker movements, including Caleb Murphy being claimed off waivers by the New York Giants and Chad Muma being signed from the Indianapolis Colts' practice squad.
This shift in the roster reflects the team's ongoing efforts to enhance their depth amidst various injury challenges, as they prepare for their upcoming match against the Baltimore Ravens, a game critical for both teams' playoff aspirations.
The Patriots, currently adjusting their depth chart, are hoping these changes will bolster their performance in the remaining weeks of the season.
