A Bronx man, Frederick Green, aged 20, has been charged with attempted murder in connection with the shooting of New York Jets player Kris Boyd. The incident occurred just after 2 AM on November 16, when Boyd, along with his friend and two other Jets players, Irvin Charles and Jamien Sherwood, left a club and were approached by a group of men who mocked their clothing, leading to a fight.
Boyd was shot in the abdomen during the altercation. In addition to the attempted murder charge, Green faces charges of assault and criminal possession of a weapon. Boyd was hospitalized after the shooting but later surprised his teammates with a visit to the Jets facility.
Boyd, a 29-year-old cornerback, was previously drafted in the seventh round by the Minnesota Vikings in 2019 and has also played for the Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals before joining the Jets in March.
He had not played this season prior to the shooting due to a shoulder injury. This incident adds to the Jets' difficult season, which has already seen the loss of former player Nick Mangold at 41 and Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland at 24, both deaths occurring earlier in November.
