Full Transcript
Al-Quadin Muhammad of the Detroit Lions has been named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week following his standout performance against the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night. In that game, Muhammad recorded three sacks, contributing significantly to the team's defensive effort.
This recognition marks the fourth time a Lions player has received Player of the Week honors this season, with Muhammad joining Jahmyr Gibbs and Jared Goff in this accolade. It's also the first time since Week 6 of the 2024 season that a Lions player has been awarded the NFC Defensive Player of the Week title.
At 30 years old, Muhammad is having a career year, currently leading the Lions and ranking tied for 10th in the NFL with nine sacks on the season. His previous career high was six sacks in 2021 while playing for the Indianapolis Colts.
Muhammad's impressive performance has solidified his role on the team, especially with injuries to fellow players Marcus Davenport and Pat O'Connor. He joined the Lions midway through the 2024 season and had already recorded three sacks before signing a modest one-year contract worth $1.42 million.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell praised Muhammad, noting that he took advantage of one-on-one opportunities created by Aidan Hutchinson's attention from opposing offenses.
