Browns Legend Bernie Kosar Faces Health Battle

Bernie Kosar, the former Cleveland Browns quarterback and football legend, is facing a serious health battle as he awaits a liver transplant. According to the Miami Herald, Kosar is currently in a Cleveland-area hospital dealing with complications from advanced cirrhosis of the liver, early Parkinson's disease, and early-stage dementia.

He was diagnosed with these conditions in 2024, and a recent setback occurred when a prospective donor was disqualified due to an infected liver, extending his wait for a transplant. Kosar shared his journey from the hospital, expressing optimism about receiving the transplant soon, stating, 'Somehow, some way, I'm figuring out a way to stay alive.' He has undergone multiple surgeries to address internal bleeding and mentioned that a recent procedure has successfully reduced this complication.

Kosar, who is set to turn 62 on November twenty-fifth, remains a beloved figure in Cleveland, having thrown for 124 touchdowns and over 23,000 yards during his nine seasons with the Browns. His leadership helped guide the team to three AFC Championship Games.

He is also celebrated for his role in leading the Miami Hurricanes to their first national championship in 1983 and served as Dan Marino's backup during his final years in Miami. Fans and supporters have rallied around Kosar, with a GoFundMe page established by a close friend, Jim McCarthy, to assist with his medical expenses.

The campaign has already raised over sixty-five thousand dollars towards a goal of two hundred thousand. Kosar expressed gratitude for the support, stating, 'I could actually use your love, support, and actual prayers today,' and he continues to keep his fighting spirit alive in the face of these daunting challenges.

The Kosar Wellness Foundation is also involved in raising funds and providing information about his situation, reinforcing his enduring legacy in the community.
