The Cincinnati Bengals have strengthened their roster by claiming wide receiver Ke'Shawn Williams off waivers from the Pittsburgh Steelers. According to Pro Football Talk, Williams was waived by the Steelers to make room for Marquez Valdes-Scantling on their 53-man roster.
An undrafted rookie out of Indiana, Williams played in eight games for Pittsburgh this season, primarily as a kick and punt returner, accumulating 18 kickoff returns for 425 yards and 11 punt returns for 112 yards, though he did not catch any passes.
Behind the Steel Curtain reports that the Steelers initially hoped to re-sign Williams to their practice squad after waiving him, but he will now join the Bengals for the final games of the season. Williams had been active for eight games this year, and despite his limited offensive involvement, he made a mark on special teams with averages of 23.6 yards on kick returns and 10.2 yards on punt returns, as noted by Steelers Depot.
Williams's addition comes as the Bengals look to bolster their offensive capabilities ahead of the playoffs, with the team officially eliminated from postseason contention earlier this month, as reported by Steelers Now.
