The Cleveland Browns have announced that rookie Shedeur Sanders will be the starting quarterback for the remainder of the season, as confirmed by head coach Kevin Stefanski. This decision follows a series of quarterback changes for the Browns, who have utilized three different quarterbacks this season.
Sanders, 23, has shown significant improvement, culminating in his standout performance during a recent 31-29 loss to the Tennessee Titans, where he completed 23 of 42 passes for 364 yards, three touchdowns, one interception, and achieved a passer rating of 97.7.
Coach Stefanski expressed confidence in Sanders' development, stating he is intentional about getting better with each game. Sanders was drafted by the Browns in the fifth round as the 144th overall pick after a notable college career at Colorado under his father, Hall of Famer Deion Sanders.
The Browns currently hold a record of 3-10 and have previously traded Kenny Pickett to the Raiders and Joe Flacco to the Bengals, which has led to Sanders stepping in for rookie Dillon Gabriel, who was drafted in the third round.
Bears linebacker DMarco Jackson commented on Sanders' potential, noting the Browns are now beginning to push the ball downfield more effectively.
