Arizona Cardinals Face Challenges with Injuries and Roster Changes
Full Transcript
The Arizona Cardinals are facing significant challenges this season, primarily due to injuries. Running back Trey Benson, who had been sidelined since late September with a knee injury, will not return this season.
Head coach Jonathan Gannon confirmed that Benson will not be activated from injured reserve before his 21-day practice window expires. Benson underwent meniscus surgery after sustaining the injury during a game against the Seattle Seahawks on September 25, 2025.
In his limited time on the field this season, Benson rushed for 160 yards and had 13 receptions for 64 yards, contributing to a total of 574 yards from scrimmage and one touchdown in his career. Gannon also noted that left tackle Paris Johnson Jr. will miss the upcoming game against the Houston Texans due to a knee injury.
The Cardinals have been heavily impacted by injuries this season, raising concerns about their ability to compete effectively. In response to these challenges, the team has made roster adjustments, signing former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Steven Sims to their practice squad.
Sims had previously played for the Steelers and was with the Seattle Seahawks before being released due to an injury settlement. His addition to the practice squad comes as the Cardinals look to bolster their receiving corps amid ongoing roster issues.
