Full Transcript
Undefeated Nebraska earned the number one overall seed in the NCAA women's volleyball tournament bracket released on Sunday. The Huskers, boasting a perfect thirty wins and zero losses this season, have displayed remarkable dominance, dropping only seven sets throughout the entire campaign.
They lead NCAA Division I in hitting percentage with an impressive point three five two. Coach Dani Busboom Kelly, who took over the program this season following the retirement of longtime coach John Cook, has guided the team to this historic achievement.
Busboom Kelly previously led Louisville to the NCAA finals in twenty twenty-four, where they faced off against Penn State. Nebraska's five national titles add to their prestigious legacy in women's volleyball.
Other top seeds in the tournament include Kentucky, Texas, and Pittsburgh. The Wildcats have claimed one NCAA championship, while the Longhorns have secured four titles in their history. Pittsburgh has reached the Final Four each of the last four seasons but has not advanced past the semifinals.
They were awarded the last number one seed after finishing tied atop the ACC with Stanford, but their overall performance secured their spot over the Cardinal, who hold nine national championships and are ranked as the number two seed in Texas's region.
Defending national champion Penn State, the only program to have participated in every NCAA tournament since its inception in nineteen eighty-one, is seeded eighth in Texas's bracket. St. Thomas from Minnesota and Toledo are making their first appearances in the tournament this year.
The Big 12 leads all conferences with ten teams in the tournament field, followed by the Big Ten with nine, the ACC with seven, and the SEC with five teams. Early-round matches are scheduled to take place from December fourth to sixth on campus sites.
The regionals will occur from December eleventh to fourteenth, hosted by the four highest seeds still competing. The final four will be held at T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri, marking the third time this venue has hosted the event.
Notably, it was here that Penn State claimed the championship in twenty ten and Nebraska won its last title in twenty seventeen. The national semifinals are set for December eighteenth, airing on ESPN, with the championship match taking place on December twenty-first, broadcast on ABC.
According to ESPN, Nebraska's achievement of securing the top seed emphasizes their dominance in women's volleyball and sets the stage for a potentially historic run in the tournament.
