Former Lakers player Elden Campbell passed away at the age of 57 on Monday in Pompano Beach, Florida, with his cause of death being ruled as accidental drowning, according to the Broward County Office of Medical Examiner and Trauma Services.

Campbell's family stated he was fishing at the time of his death, describing him as a man of faith and family who was generous, funny, and disciplined. Campbell, known as a gentle giant, played for the Lakers for 8 and a half seasons, was drafted 27th overall in 1990, and was a teammate of legends Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant.

He averaged 14.9 points per game during his time with the Lakers and won an NBA title with the Detroit Pistons. Tributes poured in from the basketball community, including one from Lakers Hall of Famer Magic Johnson, who expressed his sorrow and highlighted Campbell's talent and athleticism.
