During the MLB Winter Meetings in Orlando on December 8, 2025, Miami Marlins president of baseball operations Peter Bendix and manager Clayton McCullough discussed their plans for catcher Agustin Ramirez, who had a challenging first season.

Despite allowing 19 passed balls, 10 errors, and 83 stolen bases in 91 attempts, McCullough affirmed the team's commitment to Ramirez, stating, 'Gus is going to be a catcher. We still believe in that.' Ramirez's offensive performance included 21 home runs, 33 doubles, and 67 RBIs in 123 games, but the Marlins are also considering Liam Hicks to share catching duties.

Top prospect Joe Mack is expected to start next season at Triple A, although he could make the team if his performance warrants it. Bendix mentioned the organization is engaging in discussions with free agents and other teams, emphasizing the need for improvement after a season with 79 wins.

While the Marlins are not planning a significant payroll increase, they are open to the right additions to complement their young talent. The team is reportedly listening to trade offers for pitchers Sandy Alcantara and Edward Cabrera but prefers to retain Alcantara unless overwhelmed by an offer.

Bendix and McCullough expressed optimism about the potential for postseason play in 2026, highlighting players like Kyle Stowers, who showed a positive strikeout and walk rate, and pitcher Ryan Weathers, who they expect to have a breakout year after battling injuries.

Bendix also noted the changing dynamics of the winter meetings, stating, 'There’s no need for us to be here anymore,' reflecting modern communication methods that reduce the necessity of in-person meetings.
