Drew Brees, the future Hall of Fame quarterback, is officially joining FOX Sports as an analyst, a significant move in his post-playing career. This announcement was made by FOX on Friday, following prior discussions where Brees expressed confidence in his ability to become a top-three game analyst.
According to Andrew Marchand of The Athletic, Brees will team up with Adam Amin, who previously worked alongside Mark Sanchez. Brees' contract is expected to run at least through 2026. Notably, Brees had a pre-existing agreement to call one of the Netflix games scheduled for Christmas Day.
As it stands, Amin and Brees are positioned as the No. 6 team at FOX Sports as the new season begins. There is potential for them to move up the ranks, possibly becoming the No. 3 team, which could push the current No. 3 team, Kevin Kugler and Daryl Johnston, to No. 4.
This shift could also impact Kenny Albert and Jonathan Vilma, who would drop to No. 5, and Chris Meyers alongside Mark Schlereth, who would then be at No. 6. Brees has made it clear that he aspires to reach the No. 1 analyst position, a coveted role held by notable figures like Tom Brady at FOX, Tony Romo at CBS, Cris Collinsworth at NBC, Troy Aikman at ESPN, and Kirk Herbstreit at Prime Video.
Previously, Brees called Notre Dame games at NBC in 2021, contributing primarily to the Football Night in America studio show and calling a Thanksgiving night game between the Bills and Saints, as well as a wild-card playoff game between the Raiders and Bengals alongside Mike Tirico.
His performance in that playoff game received heavy criticism, leading to the perception that his tenure at NBC was less than successful. Ultimately, Brees' departure from NBC was characterized as a mutual decision, and now he embarks on this new chapter with FOX Sports, looking to establish himself as a leading voice in sports commentary.
