Lane Kiffin's decision to leave Ole Miss for the LSU head coaching position has ignited significant controversy among Rebels fans and alumni. Ole Miss Athletic Director Keith Carter indicated that coaching in the postseason was ruled out weeks prior to Kiffin's departure.
Former Ole Miss player Deuce McAllister expressed feelings of hurt and anger over Kiffin's timing, especially as the team prepares for its first College Football Playoff appearance. Kiffin stated he wanted to lead the Rebels through the playoffs but claimed his request was denied by Carter.
In response, Carter disputed Kiffin's claims, stating that it was made clear several weeks ago that postseason coaching was not an option. Additionally, Ole Miss player Spencer Sanders and offensive lineman Jayden Williams contradicted Kiffin's assertion that players wanted him to continue coaching.
Following his departure, Kiffin allowed four assistants who joined him at LSU to return to help Ole Miss prepare for their upcoming playoff game against Tulane, scheduled for Saturday.
