2025 College Football Playoff: Alabama vs. Oklahoma Rematch
Full Transcript
The highly anticipated rematch between No. 8 Oklahoma and No. 9 Alabama is set for the first round of the 2025 College Football Playoff, kicking off at 8 p.m. ET on Friday, December 19, at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman, Oklahoma.
This matchup follows Oklahoma's surprising victory over Alabama earlier in the season, where the Sooners capitalized on three turnovers, including a pick six, to win 23-21 in Tuscaloosa. Despite Alabama nearly doubling Oklahoma's offensive output, the Tide could not overcome the turnover margin, marking their first loss at home under head coach Kalen DeBoer.
Both teams enter the playoff with solid records, with Alabama at 10-3 and Oklahoma at 10-2. However, Oklahoma's offense has struggled significantly, averaging only 26.4 points per game, the lowest for any 10-win team in FBS history.
They also have not scored more than two offensive touchdowns in a game since October 25. Conversely, Alabama's squad may look different this time, with up to 13 players returning from injury, including running back Jam Miller, who has been limited in performance this season.
The Tide's rushing attack has been weak, averaging just 116.2 yards per game, the worst among CFP teams. As the teams prepare for this critical rematch, Oklahoma is looking to make history, as no team has ever defeated Alabama twice in the same season, while Alabama aims to avoid a repeat defeat to the Sooners, who are underdogs at home for the first time this season.
The total points for the game are set at 40.5, marking the lowest in any CFP game to date, with analysts predicting Alabama to win by a narrow margin of one point, based on their returning health and quarterback advantage.
