The San Diego Rescue Mission hosted its annual Christmas Community Outreach meal on December 20, serving nearly 1,000 people experiencing homelessness or living in unstable conditions. This event took place at the Elm Street homeless shelter in Bankers Hill, featuring a traditional roast turkey dinner along with hot showers, haircuts, live music, medical care, and pet services.
Donnie Dee, president and CEO of the San Diego Rescue Mission, emphasized the importance of community support, stating, 'Neighbor to neighbor, this season reminds us of what generosity can do.' Guests received free backpacks, hygiene supplies, and other essentials, alongside transportation assistance to the shelter.
In 2025, the mission provided immediate shelter to 1,319 individuals, assisted 293 in securing permanent housing, and celebrated 160 graduates from its Mission Academy Residential Program.
