The United States has transferred 22 Cuban migrants to its naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, for deportation, according to a report by the New York Times. This transfer marks the first instance of Cuban citizens being sent to the base since January of this year.
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has reportedly held about 730 men at Guantanamo Bay in 2025. U.S. Senator Gary Peters stated during a hearing in May that the cost of housing each detainee at the Guantanamo Bay naval base is approximately $100,000 per day.
Furthermore, the White House has requested a significant increase in funding for immigration enforcement to support the ongoing efforts for mass deportations, a goal associated with former President Donald Trump's administration.
