Cuba is facing a significant public health crisis as the Ministry of Health, known as MINSAP, reports a rising number of deaths from dengue and chikungunya. Recently, three additional fatalities were confirmed, bringing the total to 47, with most victims being minors under 18 years old, as stated by Deputy Minister Carilda Pena.

On a single day, 3,275 cases of unspecified febrile syndrome, a common symptom of both diseases, were reported, alongside 1,417 confirmed cases of chikungunya, raising the total to 44,604. MINSAP has acknowledged that these figures likely represent a subregistration, as many patients do not seek medical assistance due to the deteriorating public health services.

The epidemic, officially recognized by the government on November 12, has seen a 71% increase in dengue cases within just a week, highlighting the severe implications of Cuba's ongoing economic crisis.

Limited resources have hindered effective preventive measures such as mass fumigation and patient care, exacerbating the situation as the country grapples with these health challenges.
