NASA's Moon Mission Advances with New Technology
Full Transcript
NASA is advancing its lunar mission preparations with innovative technology, including the Lunar Outposts Mobile Autonomous Prospecting Platform, or MAPP, which will operate on the Moon alongside astronauts.
MAPP will assist in characterizing lunar surfaces and studying dust behavior, crucial for ensuring astronaut safety and mission success, according to Nicky Fox, NASA's associate administrator for science.
Additionally, NASA has initiated plume-surface interaction tests using a unique camera system to analyze how lander engine plumes affect lunar dust and soil, which is vital for future lunar landings, particularly for Artemis III, aimed at returning humans to the Moon by 2028.
These tests, conducted at NASA's Langley Research Center, are expected to provide critical data for landing systems used in both lunar and Martian missions.
