Donald Trump on Sunday paid his respects to two people killed and nine who were injured in a shooting at Brown University. He stated, "Before we begin, I want to just pay my respects to the people, unfortunately two are no longer with us, Brown University, nine injured and two are looking down on us right now from Heaven." Trump described Brown University as a great school, emphasizing its prestigious reputation.

The shooting, which took place on December 13, 2025, marked the number of mass shootings in the US for the year at at least 389, according to the Gun Violence Archive. This tragic event reignited the ongoing debate in the US regarding the need for more substantial federal gun control measures.

Senator Chris Murphy, a Democrat from Connecticut, compared this incident to the Sandy Hook shooting in 2012, which resulted in the deaths of 26 people. He expressed that a community never fully recovers from such violence, stating, "What I know is that a community never, ever recovers from a shooting like this," during an interview with CNN.
