Ukraine's Underwater Drone Strike Targets Russian Submarine

Ukraine's Security Service has claimed the first successful underwater drone strike against a Russian submarine, reportedly captured on hacked security cameras at the Novorossiysk naval base. The underwater drone, named Sub Sea Baby, is said to have caused significant damage to a Kilo-class submarine, as indicated by a video released on December 15.

The footage suggests an explosion near the submarine's stern, although independent verification of the incident is lacking. According to the SBU, the submarine has been rendered inoperable and is now confined to the naval base, impacted by the effective deployment of Sea Baby surface naval drones.

Despite this, the Russian Ministry of Defense asserts that no vessels were harmed during the attack. Details regarding the Sub Sea Baby's design and capabilities are sparse, with sources indicating it operates similarly to an autonomous torpedo, potentially allowing for precise navigation within the naval facility.

The operation's secrecy was maintained until the strike, as it involved restricted access technology, with the drone's manufacturer remaining undisclosed.
