Trump's Challenge to Pharma Executives Aims to Cut Drug Costs

President Donald Trump challenged Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Dr. Mehmet Oz to confront pharmaceutical executives directly to negotiate better drug prices for Americans.

During an appearance on the Alex Marlow Show, Oz revealed that Trump announced he has secured Most Favored Nation deals with nine more major drug companies, bringing the total to 14 agreements since late September.

These deals are expected to save Americans billions by ensuring that drug prices offered by these companies will match the lowest prices available in other countries, such as Germany and the United Kingdom.

Oz expressed pride in these agreements, emphasizing that Americans should not be paying three times more for the same drugs manufactured in the same facilities as in Europe. The agreements will also apply to new drugs introduced to the market, mandating that they be offered at MFN pricing.

Additionally, significant discounts on drug prices will be available through the upcoming Trump Rx website, set to launch in January. Trump declared this initiative as the greatest victory for patient affordability in American healthcare history, asserting that it will benefit every American.

He highlighted the previous disparity where U.S. drug prices could be ten times higher than those in other countries. Oz noted that the pharmaceutical executives have acknowledged the situation, admitting they expected someone to address the issue of inflated drug prices.

This initiative represents a significant shift in how drug pricing is negotiated in the U.S., contrasting sharply with previous Democratic approaches to healthcare affordability, according to Oz.
