Full Transcript
Rowan County residents can now apply for energy rebates through the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality's Energy Saver NC program, which helps eligible residents save money by upgrading homes with energy-efficient improvements such as heat pumps, electrical panels, and insulation.
This program is expanding to Rowan County as part of a statewide initiative, with 60 counties added on December 15, totaling 98 counties, with the final two set to be added in January. Governor Josh Stein highlighted the program's significance, stating that it will help families manage rising costs and improve home comfort and efficiency.
DEQ Secretary Reid Wilson emphasized that Energy Saver NC targets families who need it most, aiming to reduce utility bills and improve air quality. The program, funded by $208 million from the U.S. Department of Energy, provides two pathways for homeowners: the Homeowners Managing Efficiency Savings, offering up to $16,000 for efficiency upgrades, and the Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates, providing up to $14,000 for high-efficiency appliances.
Eligibility is based on household income, with full rebates available for households earning less than 80 percent of their Area Median Income, and partial rebates for those earning between 80 and 150 percent.
Approved contractors will perform the upgrades based on a free home energy assessment, ensuring quality work and local job creation. The program aims to reduce energy demand, support local economies, and promote sustainable living in North Carolina, as stated in the Salisbury Post report.
