A Charlotte-area rocket manufacturer, JGA Space & Defense, announced plans to expand its operations in Huntersville, adding 40 jobs and investing over 25 million dollars. This expansion comes as the company transitions from its previous focus on performance racing under Joe Gibbs Manufacturing Solutions to becoming a dedicated supplier for the space and defense sectors.
The company will utilize a new facility, totaling 60,000 square feet, located at 11731 Patterson Road, Suite 350, at North Chase at The Park, with operations expected to begin early next year. According to Mecklenburg County officials, the average salary for these new positions, which include machinists, quality control, and engineering roles, will be 55 thousand dollars annually.
JGA Space & Defense was rebranded after being acquired by Torque Capital Group from Joe Gibbs Racing, although the sale price has not been disclosed. Currently, the company employs over 30 individuals, and this expansion will more than double its workforce.
JGA co-investor Terry Culmone expressed pride in continuing the company’s legacy in Mecklenburg County, emphasizing the growth potential in the aerospace sector. The announcement reflects a broader trend in Charlotte, which has seen several significant business developments in recent months, including a new automaker headquarters that promises 1,200 high-paying jobs and a 207 million dollar investment.
As the aerospace industry expands, JGA Space & Defense is poised to contribute significantly to the local economy, fostering job creation and enhancing production capabilities for military applications, including hypersonic rocket nozzles.
This growth aligns with the region's ongoing efforts to establish itself as a hub for advanced manufacturing and technology, positioning Charlotte favorably in the competitive landscape of aerospace and defense industries.
